Was any consideration given to Phil Collins something in the air tonight?

Another drummer taking lead vocals while playing an iconic drum part. That is also a contender for most air-drummed drum fill of all time!

I am all about records with great drum parts. I have about 300 or so records, two copies of each, with great drum parts that I loop and rework live on stage during DJ sets with my band. Nothing beats a good drum break!

Also worth noting-- the Beastie Boys masterfully reworked "When the Levee Breaks" as the drum track to thei song "Rhymin' and Stealin'."

Nice. What are your “go-to” drum breaks for the band?

It changes from show to show. Lately we've been doing our version of "The Vapors" over James Brown's "Papa Don't Take No Mess," and using Taana Gardner's "Heartbeat," Rufus Thomas' "Do the Funky Penguin," The J.B.'s "Same Beat," and Milt Jackson & Stanley Turrentine's "Sister Sanctified" for other tracks.

You can hear a little bit of "Same Beat" in this clip someone took of me:
